Biography

Blake Parrish is an undergraduate student pursuing his degree in Psychology at IUPUI. While contributing to multiple projects being conducted by the ACT center, he utilizes his unique experiences to aid in the design of research focused on the reintegration and well-being of the military veteran populations. Blake is a returning, non-traditional student who previously served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he attended distance education courses for psychology at Ashford University, taught marksmanship and martial arts as a platform instructor, and deployed to Afghanistan.

While not on IUPUI’s campus, Blake divides his time between several volunteer opportunities. He diversifies his experiences with multiple populations while working with inner-city youth for Indianapolis Public School’s EDGE program as a youth mentor, the needy veteran population of Indianapolis as an outreach volunteer with the Hoosier Veteran Assistance Foundation, and several communities as a Sam H. Jones ServiceCorps scholar. Blake plans to integrate his education, volunteer, and research experiences and effectively apply it to the veteran population as a licensed therapist or counselor.
