I am a fifth-year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at IUPUI working with Dr. Michelle Salyers. In 2014 I received my Master of Science from IUPUI and in 2012 I graduated from IUPUI with a B.S. in Psychology.

Broadly, I am interested in research on severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, and how to promote recovery. During my graduate work, I have developed a line of research examining social cognitive and relationship factors impacting functioning and recovery in this group. As a part of my preliminary examination project, I conducted a meta-analysis examining deficits in affective empathy for those with schizophrenia. Results suggest a significant deficit in affective empathy, which is stronger when measured using performance-based techniques.

My dissertation project expands on these findings and will examine the effects of emotion regulation and metacognition in empathic deficits. Recruitment is ongoing for this project, targeting 60 participants with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.
